With filters, there are two main types available:

• Biological filters – These pond supplies help break down harmful pollutants and toxic ammonia from fish waste. These materials are then turned into useful nitrates. Those who have fish, frogs or turtles swimming around in their ponds might be best off using a biological filter.

• Mechanical filters – These pond supplies filter out debris and algae from the pond. Those who are seeking to have a clear pond that is without debris and algae often choose mechanical filters.

While there are many pond supplies to choose from, it is important that purchasing a quality filter is at the top of the list.
